Story
Figure 02 is the first humanoid robot to walk a real production line. In late 2024, a fleet of them began moving sub-assemblies at a BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina — not for a press demo, but as part of the shift. Figure later said the deployment ran for 11 months, reached more than 1,250 runtime hours, contributed to more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles, and then began winding down after Figure 03. That BMW proof point is why Figure 02 stays near the top of the roster.
The specs are the weak side of the profile. Figure has not published a detailed spec sheet on its public site — figure.ai currently features the successor Figure 03 — so the specifications panel on this profile is intentionally empty. This is missing public specs, not missing editorial work. Numbers in earlier press coverage were not consistently sourced and have been removed.
Figure's bet is loud but the company is quiet about specifics. No public delivery schedule. No retail price. If Figure publishes a sourceable Figure 02 spec sheet, this profile should update quickly; until then, the only proof point that matters is the BMW pilot, and the only number that matters is how often the robots stop.
Reality check
BMW deployment was real: Figure says Figure 02 completed an 11-month BMW Spartanburg deployment and began retirement after Figure 03. Figure's transparency on detailed specs is limited — figure.ai currently markets the successor Figure 03, with no public spec sheet for Figure 02.
- BMW Spartanburg pilot began in 2024-Q3 and Figure later reported an 11-month deployment
- Figure says the deployment reached 1,250+ runtime hours, contributed to 30,000+ BMW X3 vehicles, and accumulated an estimated 1.2M+ robot steps / 200+ miles
- Figure 02 was the production-pilot platform between Figure 01 and the announced Figure 03; Figure says retirement started after Figure 03
- General-purpose framing is overstated — actual task scope in pilot is narrow assembly work
- Detailed specifications (height, weight, payload, DoF, runtime) are not published on figure.ai
